For almost 30 years, Swarthmore has offered Alumni College Abroad trips to alumni, parents, and friends. Led by members of the faculty, these trips combine pre-departure study and reading with expert lectures and guided tours along the way. This trip to China is led by Associate Professor of Chinese Language and Literature Haili Kong, whose new book (co-authored with Professor of History Lillian Li and Alison Dray-Novey) recounts the history of the city of Beijing. This account of the trip is by Jeffrey Lott, editor of the Swarthmore College Bulletin.
